About the Artist

From her studio in Canmore, Alberta, Megan Parker transforms her experiences in the mountains into vibrant acrylic paintings that celebrate nature, resilience, and the human spirit.

Megan Parker’s life as an artist is deeply rooted in her love of the mountains. There is something raw, humbling, and profoundly moving about stepping into the forest and standing among the peaks that surround her home in Canmore, Alberta. Through her paintings, Megan seeks to capture the boldness and beauty of these landscapes and to evoke in others the same sense of awe, wonder, and connection that continues to inspire her.

Creativity has always been a defining part of Megan’s life. Her journey with painting started in high school, when she was asked to replicate The Scream for a community display. That small project sparked a lifelong pursuit of exploring color, texture, and emotion through acrylics — and led her to discover her own distinctive artistic voice.

A proud self-taught artist, Megan built her foundation through experimentation, intuition, and persistence, learning from every brushstroke. In 2021, she joined a professional artist mentorship program that allowed her to study with artists she admired, expand her techniques, and set new creative goals.

Connection Between Art, Health, and the Mountains

Megan believes that her health and strength have flourished because of her unwavering motivation to stay active and connected to the outdoors. Living with a chronic lung disease has made every breath and every hike more meaningful. The mountains have become both her sanctuary and her medicine — places that challenge her body while renewing her spirit. Her mantra, “Hike more. Breathe stronger. Hike more. Breathe stronger…” captures the rhythm of her life and the deep link between movement, vitality, and creativity.

Exploring the Deeper Meaning Behind the Art

When Megan first began sharing her art, she had no plans to open up about her illness. But as her work continued to be inspired by her adventures in the mountains, it became impossible to separate the beauty of these places from the realities of living with a chronic lung disease. Her art naturally evolved into an exploration of resilience — a reflection on what it means to keep climbing, both on the trail and within herself.

Beyond her studio practice, Megan extends her creative energy toward uplifting others through inclusive, disability-informed art initiatives. At Alberta Aphasia Camp, she leads collaborative and aphasia-friendly art projects designed to foster connection, confidence, and joy for individuals navigating communication and physical challenges. These projects embody her belief that art has the power to heal, empower, and bring people together through shared creativity and compassion.

When she’s not in the studio, Megan works as an Occupational Therapist in Outpatient Neurology Clinics, where she blends creativity, empathy, and clinical expertise to help people continue doing the things that matter most to them — even in the face of disease or disability. She is also a passionate advocate for those living with cystic fibrosis and other rare diseases — causes that hold deep personal meaning for her. She shares her love for the mountains with her husband, twin sons, and their dog, finding endless inspiration in the beauty of the alpine world that surrounds them.
